Grilling Fish Outdoors

Fish On The Grill

Despite the fact that no outdoor grill session isn't complete with out the ribs, burgers, and chicken. Fish ( regardless of the type ) has been considered a popular dish for those who may not eat red meat, pork,or even poultry . Not too many people want to grill fish though. Some believe that it's too complicated to grill yet there are numerous amount of compliments that you can recieve if you can not only grill fish but grill it well . Are you up for the challenge

There are many different types of fish to grill some classify fish according to size, whether it is firm or not and whether it is fillet or whole. This is because not all types of fish would fit into a single grilling method; different approaches are for fish depending on how it is classified. So for you to learn more about fish and how exactly you should grill them, here are some tips and tricks.

Whats The Right Type Of fish

While a lot of different types of fish would taste great on the grill, most of them are cooked differently and have different approaches to one another. Firm fish such as swordfish and tuna cook easier than other types of fish and are much better of cooked in steak cuts. The firm and meaty composition of these fishes make it easier for you to turn them every once in a while and make it harder for them to break apart and fall right into the grill.

When grilling fillets, make sure that it is at least 1 inch thick and reasonably large for consumption. When putting them on top of the grill, do not forget to turn them every 2 minutes or less. You will know if you are doing this right if you have a nice set of grill marks on the sides of the fish, this of which is the sign of a grilling master.

Keep Good Hygiene

There are just three things to keep in mind when it comes to grilling hygiene; that of which is it should be hot, it should be oiled and it should be cleaned. You can start of by having the grill cleaned every time before you start grilling. Make sure that you scrub all residues off the surface since these can fall inside the grill and cause flare ups or induce a different flavor into the items being grilled. You would not want to grill fish and have it taste like prime rib.

After that, you should make sure that the grill is pre heated even before throwing in the items to be grilled. This is the most common mistake people make especially for those who own gas grills as they would tend to throw items in the grill immediately after starting the fire. The last one is you have to make sure that the surface is oiled well enough to keep residue from sticking to the grill’s surface later on. You can do this by spraying small amounts of vegetable oil on the surface before grilling.

Grilling The Fish

You can use a lot of accessories for grilling fish. Accessories are made to make fish cook faster and make it cook evenly on all sides. These would include a wire basket, a metal skewer and a seasoned plank for causing a different pleasant taste to the fish. Take note that fish, unlike meats has to be well cooked but not overcooked to make it dry. To test if a fish is cooked, you can use the poke test to find out.
This involves having the top part pushed with something. If it crumbles or breaks, it is well cooked.

Meat On The Outdoor Grill

Meat-A Classic On The Grill

What comes to your mind when you think about grilling outdoors? Is it the party atmosphere, the endless card games and so forth ? How about the nice tender cuts of prime rib, juicy tender steaks , delicious racks of rib along and so forth ? Whatever it may be ,noting says an outdoor grilling party without friends ,family , and most importantly the food

Most people already have a certain system on how they choose ,prepare and grill their meat. Some just play it by ear and get results ( luck i guess don't want to be a hater .. lol ). However here are some tips that i've learned along the way that may can help you turn your favorite cuts of meat into something that would make your outdoor barbecues much more enjoyable for you and for everyone else ..

Choosing The Perfect Cut

Have you ever tried someone's barbecue and the meat was either too tough or really tender? Sometimes it's because of how it was prepared but mostly it's because of how the meat was selected . Choosing a good peice of meat is like choosing a good pair of shoes ( LOL ) what i mean by this is that when purchasing a pair of shoes, you don't want to have them too tight or too loose right? You want them just right which is why when choosing the right cut you want to make sure that there is just enough fat on the meat . Use your own judgement in this process however if there's not enough of fat then it's tough and if it's too much well that's not good neither .

Also make sure that the meat that you will be choosing is quite red in color. The redder it is, the better. This is a good sign that the meat is freshly cut. Never pick one that is pale since it might have been on the shelves for days. The quality of the food you will grill will rely heavily on how good the meat is so make sure that you choose carefully.

Preparing The Meat

A common misconception is that once you get home from where you bought the meat is immediately put it in the refrigerator . This isn't true since meat doesn't spoil that easliy also by throwing it in the fridge ( as well as rinsing it off with water ) you could possibly lose some of it's flavor . As long as your going to be grilling the same day , it's ok to leave it out in room temperature

Before grilling, the meat should be completely thawed and ready for grilling. Try to cut off amounts of fat that can be seen on the side. Depending on what you are planning to make, you can also season the cuts with marinade although a lot of people would prepare having the meat unseasoned or “a la pobre”.

Grilling The Meat

Now that everything is ready, the meat is all suited up to be tossed on top of your grill and get cooked. In grilling meat, you can have it rare, medium-rare, medium-well or well done and never have it overcooked. Overcooked meat is very tough and is practically tasteless so be careful not to burn it. For steaks, the best way to have it is to have it directly on top of fire.
If you do this right, you will have steaks that are very tasty, tender with all the juices right in it. Serve the meats with some nice side dishes and some red wine and you are sure to have another pleasant outdoor grilling memory.

Are You Ready For A Grill : Choose Wisely

When preparing for battle, you have to have the right weaponry ( i know right why did i start this off like were going to war or something  .. LOL) I mean There's nothing like having all of your tools with you when your about to get started on a project. It doesn't matter if your working on a car ,doing yard work ( etc ) .Even when it comes to preparing the smoke house feast , all of the tools that you need must be around. Whether it's all of your seasonings your lucky spatulas and most importantly ( drum roll please ) the grill

There are alot of factors when choosing that one special grill for you and your family .  Some of the things to consider when purchasing would be How often are you going to be using the grill ? How much can you spend for a grill and so on. You have to take note that different grills would have different features. Some stenghths and some weakness yet once you find the one that catches your eye, next you have to make sure we find the perfect place to put the grill in the yard .

A grill is a reasonably large investment but if you have a backyard, you might as well consider it as a necessity. A good outdoor grill would put that moss gathering backyard of yours into a party or a barbecue place. So to help you come up with a grill that you need, you want or you have to get, here are some tips for you to get what you really need.

Consider The Features

As i stated earlier , each grill has different features. Now depending on how often you grill or how often you have company would determine the type of grill that works best for you . I like to grill but sometimes i don't like to have a party all of the time so i choose to have something light and portable . That way , when i'm done it's easy clean up and i'm on to the next thing . These type of grills are really great if you have only a few friends and family over for a few laughs . This is also one of the least expensive grills  which is fine for me and how often i grill. However for those of you who like to have bon fires and have the whole neighborhood come over , then you may want to consider a more larger grill with so many other options to choose from . Better to have more then enough then just not enough especially when you have that one person that just keeps coming for seconds :).

Some large grills would already have some space for indirect grilling, different levels of separation from heat and a feature that would allow you to smoke items easier. Only buy this type of you really want it, always remember that you can still do those things even if your grill does not have all those fancy features. Also take note that this would influence pricing too much, the more fancy features and outdoor grill has, the more expensive the grill is most likely to be.
Are you ready for that new grill? choose wisely

Consider The Price

The prices of grill would range from very cheap to almost impossible to buy for a lot of us. So even before you think about buying a grill, it is very important to canvas for your options. Always looking for good buys will help you save so much and still get a lovely outdoor grill in the end. The internet even has good options for grills that are for sale so be sure to check it out.
The size of a grill is something that you want to take note of when choosing your grill. The larger a grill is, the more expensive it is.  This is most common with all grills yet with all of the new innovations companies have made to their products , even the fancier features have been a factor to the high price also . Let's not forget the brand name that your looking for which depnding on the brand the more popular it is the more your going to pay. So when buying an outdoor grill, look for a balance between what you need and what you can buy.

Other Things To Consider

Most importantly when it comes to choosing grills, safety also has to be something that is first priority . You dont want to cut corners when purchasing your grill. Newer grills are known to be much safer than most old grills, this is because makers have made it in a manner that the user of it would not get sparks and have prevented other potential sources of danger. With safer and better grills, you as well as everyone else is sure to be delighted with the grill you will buy.
Happy grilling everyone

Griiling Outdoors Do You Need A Special Occasion To Grill

Oh how i love barbecue's !!!! The endless times of laughter with friends and love ones , the card games, the music, and most importantly the food (yummy yummy !!!) .Seems like these type of events only happen only on special occasions. But you don't have to fire up the grill just because it's the summer. There are many ways of which we could make grilling outdoors more enjoyable and the good thing about it is that you don’t really need an occasion to do it. All you would need is a grill and the company of some people

Grillig food on the grill is always great .But the memories of the moment are everlasting . Just think about all the card games, music blarring, volley ball games, and etc when the charcoal smoke was going (or gas rill which ever you have lol)  So to make your grilling experiences more memorable, here are some ways to enjoy grilling outdoors.

Enjoy Grilling With The Company Of People

Whether these are your friends, family or your special someone it is definitely more enjoyable to have outdoor grilling sessions with people whom you would like to spend quality time with just like how you used to do when celebrating occasions while growing up. Don’t wait for an occasion, just give your folks a call and invite them over for a barbecue. This gives you a good opportunity to bond with them as well as enjoy each others presence.

The focus of grilling for recreation is not only for the quality of food you produce but from the laughter, the memories and every pleasure that you can derive from the presence of people you like. Grilling just becomes better if you are with people you love.

Not To Forget The Food

When it comes to outdoor grilling, what we would usually think of could be the nice barbecue our parents cook for us during special occasions along with veggies and fish. However, since you are in control now you can do much more than that. Try to experiment with other items on the grill, bring out your inner chef and make every barbecue worth the time and effort you’ve spent. After all, you will also be enjoying this.

While typical sauces used for grills were mostly tomato based sauces, nowadays people use all sorts of pleasant bases for sauces such as yogurt, strawberries, oranges, apples, honey and even mustard. These might seem quite odd at first but these are sure to make very pleasant tastes in the grill. So the next time you have an outdoor grill, try to make some yourself.

Other Ways To Enjoy

Grilling outdoors becomes more enjoyable with the help of drinks. Try to mix up nice drinks, punches or juices for the kids the next time you grill outdoors. Also when grilling, try to give it a good variety which means not only grilled food but nice salads, sandwiches and fruits to perfectly compliment the gustatory
pleasures offered by the grill. Just try not to put in too much, try to make sure that items on the grill are still the main attraction there.

It is also very important when grilling outdoors to have a good weather. A nice warm and sunny weather is perfect for having grills. This sets a nice ambiance and a good mood to everyone thus making the occasion more enjoyable.

Best Ways To Grill Seafood

Some Of The Best Stuff

Everyone knows that either beef or poultry is a must have on any grill. Yet those who truly master the very art of grilling understands that you can have an effective grill session without adding seafood to the meal  . Not only does seafood give a healthier option to those who cannot have too much of meat but they also taste really good if you know how to prepare them the right way. With the many pleasant things you can turn seafood into by the use of your grill; it is no wonder why it is getting more popular by the moment.
Considering that, you might want to try having seafood the next time you and your family go grilling. So to educate you with what seafood would be great on the grill as well as what are some good things to do with them, here are some tips that would describe in detail the ideal way of cooking and having it.

Grilling Fish

When it comes to grilling seafood, fish should always be at the top of the list. With some nice fishes and a grill alone, you would able to produce so much delectable dishes with only that. In grilling fish, you would first have to classify fish into firm and tender, whole and fillet and use different grilling approaches when it comes to the fish depending on how you would classify them. Be aware that aside from direct grilling, you could also roast, sear and do a lot more with fishes on the grill.

For firm fish such as tuna and swordfish, the best way of having them is to grill them right on top of the fire since other types could easily crumble and fall right inside the grill. Make sure that the fire is not too strong as not to burn the fish but just right as to make the fish juicy and tender right after being grilled. Another way to cook fish is to have them smoked with the use of seasoned wood chips. The smoke made by these chips would infuse the fish with a different but really pleasant flavor.

Crustaceans

We all have tried crabs, lobsters and shrimps most likely boiled but most of us most likely have not tried having them cooked on top of the grill. When it comes to preparing these, you should be aware that one of the best ways of having them is to have them grilled. Grilling them gives a much different but very delicious flavor as compared to other ways of preparing crustaceans.
Grilling crustaceans is quite easy; some would even consider it easier to grill than fish. The firm meat keeps it whole all throughout the grilling process and unlike fish, crustaceans do not crumble or crack at the surface and fall into the grill. Since it is so, it is even a good item in the grill for beginners to start with.

Other Good Seafood

Other seafood such as squid, octopus and different shells are also great on the grill. However, you have to be careful in grilling squid and octopus since having them slightly overcooked would make them very chewy, tough and flavorless. But if you cook them right, it would be the exact opposite and would taste absolutely great.
Grilled seafood would also go well with other favorite items on the grill such as vegetables, poultry and beef. With grilled seafood, your days with your family on the grill are sure to be much better.

4 Tips To Stay Safe When Grilling Outdoors

The Importance Of Safety

Safety is always a must when grilling outdoors. It's not always common but a lot of serious injuries, deaths, structure fires and even outdoor fires have been caused just because some people are not aware or are concerned about outdoor grilling safety, these of which are quite very basic and are very easy to follow. Considering what disasters grilling could cause, we must be more aware of safety tips when it comes to grilling outdoors.
You must first be aware that grilling involves the use of a lot of fire and you should know what fire can do. You should also be aware of the safety guidelines for your grill which is most likely already provided in the manual, make sure to read it even before using it. Being safe with the grill will not only help prevent injuries but would also make grilling more enjoyable for you and the whole family.

The Grilling Area

The outdoor grilling area should be designated for the barbecue alone and not anything else. Make sure you set aside a safe place for it, that it should be away from everything that could catch fire easily such as the house itself, paper materials, laundry, herbs, bushes and shrubs. Also make sure that the kids and the pets stay away from the grill until it has cooled off completely. Make the grilling area a no play zone especially when you are grilling.
Also make sure that the grill is away from all outlets or wires as these can react in a violent manner when exposed to extreme heat. Remember it is an outdoor grill and it should only be used outdoors and never indoors. Aside from the smoke being inside your house and polluting everything inside, having it indoors would also impose a lot of potential dangers of which you would of course want to avoid. Following outdoor grilling safety requisites are very important so make sure to take them seriously.

The Grill Itself

Every time you start a grill, you always have to check it for things that might cause accidents. Before starting a fire, make sure that there are no leaks in the gas tank if you are using a gas-powered grill. You can check this by just looking at it, do not ever try to test leaks by the use of a match as this can ignite the whole thing and could make the tank explode. Make sure that you only start the fire if you have checked the grill thoroughly.
Also make sure the grill is standing stable. Check the legs and make sure that they are not too shaky and are standing firmly on the ground. Having the grill toppling over while the fire is one can cause a lot of serious cases so you have to make sure that you follow this guideline carefully. Also double check for items that could catch fire near the grill and make sure that the area is completely safe. Only start grilling if everything seems safe.

Other Safety Guidelines

For outdoor grilling safety, you must not leave the grill turned on at all times. Make sure that you are focused on grilling and not do anything else when doing so. Also make sure that you have a fire extinguisher and a first aid kid always ready. You will never know what happens so you have to be ready just in case something happens.
The grill is a fun and a good opportunity for you to share with your family so you should always make sure that everything is safe when you are grilling outdoors.

Grilling Outdoors : What To Have

Nothing Says Outdoor Grilling Without the meat

What would outdoor grilling be without some nice cuts of prime rib, baby back ribs or other nice cuts of meat that everyone would enjoy when out on a grill. This is because meat has become the norm  when it comes to outdoor grilling and it is no doubt that when it comes to grilling, if you dont have the any meat on the grill well your treating yourself your just cheating yourself (in my opinion ) .
There are many ways of having meat in a grill with the most common having them directly grilled on top of a fire. If this is done right, then the meat will be juicy and tender. Other ways of cooking meat would involve roasting which is commonly done for ribs and smoking of which involves having chips of seasoned wood burnt to have the pleasant aroma and flavor infused into the meat.

Some Poultry

Although poultry has been considered the hardest to cook especially when your cooking chicken or turkey . It's still one of the favorite and must have items on the grill. Grilling poultry does not only make it taste much better but is also considered by many as a healthier way of having it. Grilled lean cuts of turkey, duck and chicken have always been safe for those who are calorie-conscious and as well as anyone else who loves grilled food.
The key to having good poultry on the meat is to ensure that they are cooked tenderly with the entire flavor sealed inside and having it cooked well at the same time. Poultry, unlike meat should be cooked well and not show any traces of blood however, it is quite difficult to have it this way since most of the time, the outside would show that the meat is cooked well but when you look inside, there are still traces of blood. To avoid this, prick one side of the chicken and take note of the juices that would come out. With this, you should be able to tell if it is cooked well.

Lots Of Seafood

For those who could not have too much meat even on the grill can have a much better option, and that is what we call seafood. Seafood does not have too much of those unwanted substances you can find in meat but at the same time, you will still enjoy your time at the grill with the many flavors it has. Some favorite seafood are fish, squid, shellfish and crustaceans.

The best way to serve seafood is to put it together with other seafood entrees . Think about having grilled salmon, smoked oysters and grilled soft shell crabs. They go well with each other as well as other items such as  vegetables and other meats like chicken and beef . No matter how  you put it together just make sure that you don't overcook the seafood, otherwise it would be tasteless and tough. Cooking it right however would make it an instant favorite for everyone who would be having it.

 Grilled Vegetables

Most of us might not be aware of it but some vegetables are really nice when grilled. The best thing about it is that they are really easy to cook and taste really good with the flavor that the grill gives them.
To add a twist to all the other items we usually have when grilling outdoors, it would be nice to have some fresh peppers, zucchinis, eggplant and asparagus that are marinated in vinegar, oil and spices and grilled to perfection. Vegetables are very easy to grill, and go well with virtually every other item on the grill.

Outdoor Grilling Ideas: A Few Tips For The Best Results

Stop the press because your grill is not limited to just outdoor grilling. Most people just go outside set up some charcoal, drench it with lighter fluid , and throw a match ( now thats a fire !!!! ) . While the classic method of direct grilling can already please most of us,just think there are so many other outdoor grill ideas that one could use to enjoy the heavenly taste of barbecue .These techniques include ,searing, indirect grilling and smoking which turns ordinary meat into a tasting pleasure with a distinct flavor.
Each of these techniques you can use depending on what types of items you are to grill, for example; direct grilling is best for large cuts of beef and sausages, smoking, which is one of my favorites is best for whole fish and meats too. With experience, you will later develop a taste of what goes where in the grill enabling you to be an expert on it.

First Things First

Even before starting out, you have to be sure that your grill is clean. There's nothing worst then having a beautiful, juicy, succulent peice of prime rib grilled to perfection . Only to have it taste like grilled salmon (oh!! the horror !!!) . In cleaning the grill, make sure that you do it right after cooking and while the grill is still hot. In doing this, use a wire brush and scrub off all remaining residue that is left on the grill. This is the main cause of the unpleasant flavoring if you don’t clean your grill well.
More to that, these residues can also fall into the grill and can later cause a flare-up, this of which we would like to avoid. While your grill is clean, you would also want to prevent residue from sticking to it as much as possible. To do this, spray the surface of your grill with vegetable oil every time before you grill. This is even more important if you are using sugar based sauces like the common ones people use to coat ribs and barbecue.

Get Your Grill Hot

I can not express to you how very important it is to have your grill hot before any item is placed on the grill. For most of us especially for those who own gas-powered grills, we put the items in right after we start the fire.  Even though everyone is wondering when will the hotdogs and hamburgers will be ready please wait around 15-30 minutes of having the fire turned on before placing any items to be grilled in while having all the items and cooking tools you will be needing standing by.
Also be mindful that the surface of your grill is not equally hot on all sides. There are some sides that are hotter than others and some that are a bit cooler than others. Being good on the grill, you should know where these sides are and use them to your advantage. This is where the technique of indirect grilling comes into mind being that you would need to find out where the cooler side is.

Having Ingredients Ready

Even before you start grilling; it is very important that your ingredients are already prepared and ready to be tossed on top of the grill. For steaks, you might want to cut of excess fat and have it seasoned with some salt and pepper. As for chicken, since it is quite difficult to have it grilled, you can pre-cook it in the microwave oven. This will lessen cooking time and as well as make it easier for you to have your chicken brown.
Vegetables on the other hand should already be cleaned and cut for the grill. After all these, you are ready to get grilling.
